Job Profile

Mosaic 1898 Direct Payments Support Service are assisting a lady with a history of a psychotic illness and ongoing mental health needs to recruit a Personal Assistant. She is an active member of the community but has a tendency to take too much on, so support is required with routine building and to help keep her on track to allow her to achieve her goals.

The position is for 8 hours per week to be worked primarily on Mondays and Wednesdays. However, flexibility may be required to work on other days, if needed.

Knowledge or experience of supporting people with mental health issues, and experience of ‘grounding’ or willingness to learn/understand the techniques would be beneficial. The successful applicant should be friendly and active with an understanding of boundaries and maintaining professional relationships. The lady is also supported by a CPN who is happy to give advice to the successful applicant to aid them in their role.

Duties (As required, instructed or directed by employer)
• Prompt and support with day-to-day activities
• Escort to social/community meetings and events
• Provide emotional support
• Support with routine building
• Assist the individual to maintain attention and keep focused and on track to achieve their goals
• Help the individual to gain distance from distressing thoughts, feelings, and memories by bringing them back to the present using grounding techniques
• Prompting to prepare food and eat healthily
• Liaise with CPN if advice is required

Person Specification

You will be friendly but understand boundaries and maintain professional relationships.
You will be reliable and trustworthy with the commitment to accept responsibility. You will be comfortable to work on own and with initiative if necessary. You will always be diligent and conscientious.

Communication skills: You must be able to communicate effectively.

Patience: it is vital that you utilise patience and take time to understand the individual's body language and varying cues for support.

Flexibility: health needs can change, and routines may need to alter, therefore, you will need to be flexible regarding shift patterns.

Organisation and Time keeping: Time management is essential. You would be expected to arrive to shift on time and if there is a delay, the individual to be notified as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will have a full UK driving licence and access to a car.

• Understand that the preservation of dignity & independence is important.
• Respect the possessions & equipment in the employer’s home.
