Job Profile

Mosaic 1898 Direct Payments Support Service are supporting a young gentleman to recruit a Personal Assistant in the Lutterworth area of Leicestershire to join an existing support team.

The gentleman is 23 years old and has PMLD and challenging behaviours and requires 2:1 support. However, he is not violent or aggressive to others. He occasionally, uses a wheelchair but is ambulant.

The position available is for up to 16 hrs per week, though additional hours will be available during school holidays. Working days and hours are flexible and can be discussed with the employer at interview.

You will be required to encourage and assist the gentleman with his personal care, including washing, dressing and toileting. You will supervise and support with feeding, being aware of choking. You will also be providing domestic support with general household duties. You will act as an escort to his social meetings, events, walks and participate in local and day to day activities.

You will need to be fair but firm and be able to challenge the gentleman to encourage him to be as independent as possible.

It is essential that you have experience of working with people with Learning Disability and Challenging Behaviour.

Person Specification

A caring and patient approach is an important quality in a Personal Care Assistant. You will be reliable and trustworthy with the commitment to accept responsibility. You will be comfortable to work on own, as part of team, and with initiative if necessary. You will always be diligent and conscientious.

You will meet the job’s physical requirements (e.g. moving & handling)
Communication skills: You must be able to communicate effectively.

Enthusiastic and persistent: you must be enthusiastic and able to encourage the gentleman to be as independent as possible.

Patience: it is vital that the you utilises patience and take time to understand the individuals body language and varying cues for support.

Flexibility: health needs can change, and routines may need to alter, therefore, you will need to be flexible regarding shift patterns.

Organisation and Time keeping: Time management is essential as routine is very important. The PA would be expected to arrive to shift on time and if there is a delay, then notify the employer as soon as possible.

As a condition of employment, you will be required to have an enhanced DBS.
