A Day Service for the City

An exciting new development for mosaic is the “pilot” project we have been commissioned by Leicester City Council to develop.
The City Council has been mindful of ensuring disabled people who live in the City have a range of choices of things to do during the day. Currently, if someone is assessed as needing something to do during the day, the choices have been limited. There is only one day centre – Douglas Bader Centre – although there are a number of different activities that happen there. The “pilot” project is to develop three “Alternative Day Services” within the City, not dissimilar to the well-established Ibstock and Enderby Groups in the County. Each group has up to 12 members in each and 4 members of staff. Each group meets at a different place on a different day. Transport is available to those who need it. Group members will decide on what activities take place. For those interested in joining one of the day services you need to contact your social worker so a referral can be made.
Staff working in the city are – Nikki Sellars (Project Worker), Janet Gordon, Niranjan Jani and Samantha Houghton (Support Workers).
The groups details are as follows:
- ACE (Amity Creative Experience) meet on Mondays and are based at Cross Corners Community Art Centre, Thurcaston Road, Leicester – opposite Belgrave Hall. Amity means “friendship”
- Hamara meet on Tuesdays at the Tudor Centre, Bewcastle Grove, Leicester. Hamara is a Gujarati word meaning “ours”
- Carte Blanche meet on Wednesdays at The Guildhall, Guildhall Lane, Leicester
All groups meet from 10am to 3pm.
