History

1997:
At an Annual General Meeting of the Guild in 25 October of this year, it was decided to change the name of the organisation to the ‘Guild of Disabled People’.

1998:
The Centenary celebrations of the Guild. Production of the book “From Strength to Strength”

1999:
Barbara Howard was appointed as the new Director to bring the organisation into the 21st Century and to give the organisation a ‘Radical Transformation’.

2000:
The Trustees decided to sell the Guild Hall and to buy new premises. The sale was completed on 24 March of this year.

2000:
The ‘Radical Transformation’ included a change of name. A competition was held for a new name with a cash prize. There were 227 entries. The winner donated the money back to the organisation so we could hold a Poetry Competition each year until we found a New Building. The new name was ‘mosaic: shaping disability services’.

2000:
We won our first tender to deliver a Direct Payments Support Service in Leicester City.

2001:
In April, Antenna, a counselling service for disabled people, became one of mosaic’s services when it;s Trustees decided it could no longer continue as an independent organisation.

2001:
mosaic’s Sailability Project began at John lake in Watermead Country Park. It’s first boat was the Independence, donated by Leicester Rotary together with a pontoon hoist donated by Kirby and West.

2002:
In November of this year we moved into rented accommodation on Richard III Road in Leicester.
