History
1982:
The Association launched its own 44-foot canal boat called ‘Sunbeam’. It was bought by the Leicester Council of Voluntary Youth Services, under the Prince Charles Jubilee Fund, for use by disabled people.
1984:
In March of this year, the Association set up a large development at Pelham Way to provide specially adapted, ground floor accommodation for disabled people.
1987:
This year marked the Golden Jubilee of the Leicestershire Association for the Disabled. They decided to commemorate this by building another bungalow.
1989:
The first tenant moved into new accommodation at Harrison Court, Packwood Road on 3 July.
1991:
There was a joint decision to merge the Leicester Association for the Disabled and the Leicester Guild of the Physically Handicapped into one organisation. This took place on 1 February of this year.
1991:
The Guild decided to close Cropston Holiday Home.
1992:
The Guild Hall became a Grade II listed building.
1996:
Currently, the services provided are Community Action Team, Day Centres, Fundraising, Gardening, Holidays, Independent Life Project, Information, Newsletter, Sunbeam, Outings, Personal Support, Reception and Drop In, Shopping, Socials, Transport and Youth Services.
